The Route
- The KPU follows the Marangu Route, the most popular and easiest route with about 68 km and 4100 meters of elevation gain. It is starting from Marangu Gate, one of the entry points to the nationalpark, up to Uhuru Peak and back down. There are three main checkpoints on the route: Mandara Hut (2720 m), Horombo Hut (3720 m) and Kibo Hut (4700 m)
- The trails lead through one of the worlds most spectacular and breathtaking landscapes: cultivation zone, rain forest, moorland, alpine desert and arctic summit. All in one day!
- Most of the trails are flowy, yet need some concentration especially on the downhills
- Key sections are from Kibo hut (4700 m) up to Gillmans point (5685 m) and from there to Stella point (5756 m)
- Remember: the main challenge is the altitude and not the course itself!
